Plastic Free July = Epic Fail

I’ve been loving this whole Plastic Free July thing. I have tried incredibly hard and been doing so well, even if I do say so myself.

Then we went to KZN for the weekend.  I was so ready.

I had my travel mug, a glass dish, fork, knife and spoon and a dish cloth. For padkos I had packed two delicious pies and a country date slice from our fave spot – Sweetpea & Maple in Heidelberg.

Shame about the lids, but they are reusable.

We hit the road, it was late, it was raining, I was tired, went into Mugg & Bean, and ordered a coffee. Forgot travel mug.

Saturday morning I unfortunately had a hangover.  Clearly we all know the only option here is a Super-Moo (chocolate) (in it’s plastic bottle), a bag of NikNaks and a boerewors roll.  Followed by a fruit juice from Mugg & Bean, again, travel mug sitting snug in the car.

Due to bad weather, the home baked cake I had ordered for my friends daughters dedication, missed it’s lift from Eshowe to Hillcrest, and so off I went to Woolworths and bought an array of plastic packaged cakes and treats.

Sunday morning, running late, just before dashing into Kloof Harvest (awesome church!), grabbed a coffee from next door, I don’t even need to tell you how I failed here, again.

And so the weekend went on. Hectic.

But I console myself with this – I am not going to bring anyone closer to the Zero Waste Life by being a pain in the backside about it – sometimes you just have to suck it up, realise that you are not perfect and keep on trying. That is my logic anyway, and I am sticking to it!
