Where to Recycle in South Africa

Recycling is tricky, and quite frankly, a real pain.  I suppose that is why it is number 4 of the 5 R’s – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rot. Easier, and better to reduce what needs to be recycled in the first place, and you can do this by using the first 3 R’s!

But lucky for us, a wonderful woman by the name of Andrea of Dirt Cheap Cook, put in a whole lot of effort creating this awesome Google document for us to find out where to take our trash, and support recycling projects in South Africa. Click the image below to find spots in your area.

Andrea has also been doing a survey – help her help us and the major supermarket chains to reduce their waste and footprint.  Please take part by clicking here.  More information below.

” For those of you who are interested in our environment and live a lifestyle where you’re recycling your waste, and would like to see major supermarket chains do more on their part, I am hoping to approach them eventually with ideas of what they can do. My biggest idea is to start looking at reward points systems where you can take recyclables to the shops , deposit them and get rewards or cash back for your waste.

In order to this, I need real data and a strong footprint behind me to show them that this is what the people are wanting.

I’ve created a survey where the goal is to collect 100 000 responses, and the BIG goal is to get 500 000 responses.

This will provide a sufficient amount of data to be analysed and presented to the major chain stores.

Please complete my survey through the link, it should take 5 minutes. ”

  1. Thanks Colleen,

I agree that recycling must be one of the most complex of the Rs! I’ve also been doing a lot of research for my workshop and it’s quite mind-boggling. Thanks for the information.
